Handi Foam Insulation

Most homeowners know that heating a home is expensive during the
winter months. That is why it becomes extremely important to have a properly insulated home. There are all
types of insulation available, but let’s take a look at one of the top lines of insulating foam called
Handi foam. Not only because it’s easy to use, but because it makes sense to use
it.
Handi Foam is used for the following
applications:
- Insulate wall cavities
- Insulate metal structures and buildings
- For window and door insulation
- They have a fire blocking line for walls, floors, and
ceilings
- Insulate behind electric outlets and
panels
- Insulate and moisture control
- Sound proofing
- Can be used as an adhesive for sub floors and help replace
marine flotation problems
As you can see by this short list that it is quite versatile and
can be used for almost any need. In fact, the list I showed you is about 1/3 of the things that it can
do.
Handi foam is not like the common pink insulation you put in
your home. Because it comes as a liquid foam material, it needs to be sprayed. The benefit of spraying
insulation goes beyond that of pink insulation because it gets inside and coats every crack and crevasse.
Pink insulation is good, but it doesn’t get everywhere properly. Not to mention, with pink insulation, you
would need to put a vapor barrier of plastic to help with moisture control. However it can easily be ripped
open, and if moisture is in between the plastic and the outside of your house, it will slowly allow mold and
rot to settle in.

One thing I must mention is that Handi foam by itself is not UV resistant. Therefore you would need to paint or prime it with
something that is. It can be sanded and trimmed easily once cured. Some its uses will require you to tack it
after it has set for 5 minutes, but for many of the home applications this is not necessary. Some
applications will set rather quickly but cure only after several hours.
Handi foam usually comes in a box with canisters of compressed
air. Not all of us have air compressors, or even ones that can fit in smaller spaces. The kit will include
several nozzles, spray gun, and everything else you need to start applying it. However, one thing that it
does not come with is safety glasses, gloves, or respirator. You will have to get these on your own and make
sure that the area you are working in is well ventilated like any other project.
I’ve got to say that insulating with Handi foam is 50 times easier to apply than regular insulation and does a much better job. It
may cost a bit more than your typical pink insulation but I’m sure you will recover the cost back after a
cold winter season. The people at Foam Power have really made insulating any structure easy and you would be
silly not to use it.
