DIY Spray Foam Insulation Kits

If you are looking to save some money on energy at home, then you will want to read about spray foam
insulation kits. Honestly, it is not easy to understand so I hope to cover all the basics that you need to
know. Most of the bills we pay at home are in fact related to heating and heating problems. A lot of heat exits
through cement, cracks, walls, ceilings, and windows. But if you have good insulation all around, you will not only
save money in the winter and cold nights, but also during the summer time to keep the cool air locked inside.
With all the talk of going green there are now many types of spray foam insulation kits available at most major
home improvement stores. The most important thing to remember is that the majority are non-toxic and fire
resistant. So this makes it perfect to spray in obscure places. On the other hand traditional pink insulation is
very hard to pack and difficult to work with. Could you imagine trying to fill in every tiny little crack with pink
insulation? Wouldn’t it make more sense to use a spray and finish the job in seconds rather than hours or days?
The downside of regular foam insulation is that it is expensive. This is why it makes even more sense to buy
dedicated spray foam insulation kits. The amount of money you invest to get the job done right, the more money you
are going to save over the long run with heating and cooling costs. Another awesome benefit of spray foam is that
it will also add a layer of sound proofing to keep your home more quiet from room to room. But yes, that’s not all
because it will also keep moisture out to help prevent mold and other nasty things from growing.

One kit I have to recommend is the DIY Energy Efficient Home Insulation Kit. The kit costs between $1000 and
$1500 which should take care of 1000 square feet of your home with about a 1 inch thickness, which is more than the
recommended thickness. The thing that is really awesome is that you really don’t need to buy anything extra because
the kit comes with compressed air, spray gun, goggles, and other safety items. But you should check with the kit
just to make sure you have it all before returning home.
Okay, so you’ve invested in some spray foam insulation kits, now what? Here is a list of some
of the basics which will give you an idea of what you’re up against:
1. Assuming that you have already prepared your areas to spray the foam, put on your safety equipment. Take
your hoses out of the kit and make sure everything is attached securely and open the valves. At this time you want
to make sure that there are no leaks. If there are leaks, turn everything off and return it to the store for an
exchange.
2. Unlock the spray gun and start spraying. Make sure that you pull the trigger all the way to get a proper
application. If you want to spray less then you will need to adjust the nozzle to spray a finer mist. Usually when
you spray fully open there will be two steady streams coming out, these are the two chemicals that need to mix as
they are sprayed on.
3. You may want to test a bit before you start spraying like crazy. The color of the foam should be an
off-white color and not dark brown or bleach white. When the foam hits the surface, it shouldn’t feel tacky after 1
minute, if it does you may need to shake the chemical tanks to mix things up and make sure that the chemicals are
spraying out properly. If you do happen to stop or take a break, you will need to replace or clean the nozzle
because it will become plugged up.
Good luck with DIY spray foam insulation kits! It isn’t hard but you do need to exercise
caution and take your time to do the job right.
